PMI Fee Analysis

The PMI Fee Analysis has been provided to over three hundred doctors over the past four years, to assist offices in developing their own fee schedules, appropriate to their environment and their goals. A logically developed fee schedule will make it much easier for you to work with Medicare and with other health care payers, using the same system many payers use.

Health care providers have traditionally established their fee schedules without regard to the values of services relative to each other. PMI assists you to establish your fees by providing data from state and national sources and by 'mining' information from your current fee schedule. Then you will be able to review this information and apply it to your practice.

PMI offers three options to help doctors set office fees:

The FULL fee analysis, multiple speadsheets as needed, including personal consultation with Dr. Brownlow throughout the process. We work with you until you have developed a fee schedule you are comfortable with! $225 ($180 for Wisconsin Optometric Association members)

A fully functional Excel spreadsheet with the data listed below, permitting offices to do their own calculations, changing scenarios, etc. $100

Data spreadsheet: A reference sheet that includes the data listed below. $50

  • - CPT codes for 53 office visits and procedures commonly provided in eye care offices
  • - Medicare's current relative value unit (RVU) for each of the services, from Medicare's Resource Based Relative Value System
  • - A description of each service
  • - Other information about the service; e.g. unilateral vs. bilateral, documentation guidelines, coding requirements
  • - Data from a national fee survey, showing averages to the 50th percentile, gathered from other providers who use these CPT codes
  • - Data from a survey of eye doctors' fees conducted by Dr. Brownlow and published in Primary Care Optometry News, October 2005
  • - A column for you to enter the current fees for your office
  • - The current National Average Medicare Fees for each of the services

All this information is updated constantly to ensure that the fee survey data, the relative values and the other information is current.
